Translate En Español Families

We fully understand that connecting with the families is equally as important as connecting with the future KU Latino student. The Provost’s office is translating various admissions and application materials into Spanish as a means of direct outreach to not only prospective Latino students, but also to their family members; so that they too can participate in the college selection process.

We are pleased to announce the creation of a new KU recruitment position in Southwest Kansas. Toni Casados has accepted the position of Recruitment Support Coordinator and will begin in early May. Toni will be based in Garden City and will continue to enhance and modify recruitment and alumni efforts in Southwest Kansas communities. Toni’s responsibilities will include providing information to prospective transfer students from local community colleges, as well as designing early outreach and parent education programs. Toni looks forward to working with each of you and welcomes your support and input. Her contact information will soon be available on the website.

The cost of a post-secondary education remains a concern for many families and for KU. We are sensitive to these concerns and continue to work towards making college as affordable as possible and equally important, a reality for more Latino students and their families. A recently established scholarship fund from the KU Equal Opportunity Program has been established for qualified low-income or first-generation college students. For more information on this scholarship, please visit Institute for Educational Research & Public Services.

We are also currently exploring ways to enhance and adapt the Mi Familia program. This program emphasizes the importance of including the entire family in the recruitment and retention efforts of Latino students. To learn more about this particular program, please see the official KU news release.
